Skillsroad is a non-profit online platform helping young Australian jobseekers and recent school leavers begin their career journey.
Skillsroad also provides guidance for parents, teachers and future employers to support Australian youth in better navigating their career planning and finding a meaningful future career path.
Sponsored by My Business, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia, and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Skillsroad offers young Australians career support all for free.
The existing site had an outdated look and feel that was unwelcoming to not only young users, but users of all ages. The main site navigation was also confusing.
The objective was to improve user navigation and transform the site with a fun and modern aesthetic that would attract young Australians to the platform.
Some design restraints included:
- Allowing existing content to be smoothly transferred to the new design layouts without fuss.
- Ensuring that all design elements met with the Material Design Accessibility specifications. This included the choice of colours, language and UI functionalities.
- Creating designs that could be built off the Vuetify UI component library.
The Careers Quiz, Job Fit Test, and Jobs Board were some of the major tools that helped direct young jobseekers towards job opportunities according to their skills, interests and talents. Hence, it was crucial that these tools were fun and intuitive to use, and easily accessible throughout the site.
This project was a collaboration between Campfire's product management, UX & UI and developer teams, eNoah's design and consultation team, and of course, the Skillsroad management team.
UX wireframe prototypes, brand research, and UI concepts were drafted. Rounds of discussion and feedback workshops were carried out.
Versatile UI component templates were specifically designed for the Skillsroad team to easily customise and assemble content pages in the backend.
The end-to-end design process from concept to approved design ready for development took a little over four months. The refurbished site launched in early 2022.
